Rafina Greece

Rafina is one of the Port cities of Athens, they have 2. If you plan on taking a ferry to Mykonos or Santorini than it will most likely be doing so from Rafina. Rafina is a nice little town right off the sea. One of our AirBnb hosts mentioned that Rafina is one of the nicer parts of Athens, it’s not crowded like Athens is and it has a park right next to the Beach.

This was the first stop for our Greece adventures. We made the decision to spend the our first night in Rafina due to it being the Port town, we had a ferry to catch the following morning, to go to Mykonos, and our AirBnb was within walking distance from the Port.

The flight to Greece was 18 hours, and we struggled to catch sleep on the plane. So on the arrival of Rafina we decided to take things easy and attempted to fight off as much Jet lag as possible, because our AirBnb was a quick walk from the port we were able to leave the AirBnb a few times, we went for a walk around the Town as well as made our first Trip to the Beach.

For dinner we got to experience our first Gyro, we’ve never had one before coming to Greece. This was at a little restaurant near the port. The town of Rafina seemed more abandoned than we would have expected. Even our AirBnb was half abandoned.

There was this one restaurant that was rated ‘Best of 2010’ and ‘Best of 2011’, but since than seems to have only gone down hill from there.

The AirBnb was a nice and small little apartment, the balcony overlooked the port which offered an amazing view. It was a very nice place to sit and relax, from here you were able to watch the ferries pull in and out of the port.

Gif of Ferries...Maybe?

The following morning we were up at the brink of dawn to catch the ferry. This was our first ferry ride of the trip, we will use ferries to travel from each of the islands, and then back to Athens. We booked all of our ferries through FerryHopper, we tried a few different sites, but FerryHopper allowed us to picked the dates and islands and really allowed us to plan and structure our trip.

Kiely was able to catch some sleep on the ferry, traveling on ferries are a much better experience than traveling by plane. On most ferries you can purchase Food or drinks, and you have so much more room on a ferry than on a plane. (Not all ferries will be as roomy depending on the island, and if you are traveling during peak travel season.)

While our time in Rafina was short we were able to get some amazing pictures of the little town. Kiely loved Rafina so much she even hoped online to see what the cost of some of the abandoned buildings where. Below you can see some more photos.
