Mykonos Greece
Mykonos is a one of the more touristy islands of Greece, and with good reason. The main city of Mykonos has so much character to it, it would be impossible not to fall in love with it. The buildings are close and stacked together, and the streets are narrow and bumpy. While I would hate to see the narrow streets during the more crowded months of tourism, the little town of Mykonos is defiantly a city for the books.
The buildings are white, with contrasting colors of blues and red. There are lots of rumors on why the city was painted white, we even heard that they went to the island of Delos, grinded the ancient marble structures down to make the white paint. While a quick google seems to disprove that, the white painted buildings do lend to making the city feel bright, and allows all of the colors to Pop.
It’s the island that doesn’t sleep. Our Taxi driver said “Mykonos is the party island. The party starts in the morning and ends in the morning.” While we can’t disprove that (We were typically in bed by midnight) the later the night got the more things in the town started to open. Even by 3pm or 4pm, it seemed like only half the city was open. But by 8pm or 9pm everything would be open.
Our first AirBnb in Mykonos was right in the heart of the city.
